Orchard Fashion Runway
Imagine the quintessential shopping Orchard Road cleared of vehicular traffic and transformed into the longest fashion runway – well at least for a couple of hours from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm last Saturday 05 April. Orchard Fashion Runway, the grandest local fashion show, was back for the third time. Thousands of local Singapore residents and countless tourists lined both sides of the part of Orchard Road between the Ion/Marriott Hotel and the Paragon junctions well ahead of the 8.30 pm start. My wife and I did the same so that we can absorb the SiSoMo effects that were first espoused by Satchi & Satchi.
The show roared to a rousing start with a dozen motor bikes in the lead, ahead of 150 models strutting to display the latest Spring-Summer designs by local Singapore designers and fashion houses. They were represented by these nine brands – Aimer, Ashley Isham, David Koma, DEPRESSION, i.t, Manish Arora, MAX&Co., Robinsons and The Reckless Shop.

There’s more fashion too from the spectators themselves! Many were also seen grooving to the high decibel music with great pounding beats. It was heartening to see one and all enjoying themselves on a Friday night. I think Singapore is more than just clinically clean now. It’s still some way for us to reach the likes of iconic fashion capitals such as London, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Milan, but we are moving there, fashion-wise 🙂
This Orchard Fashion Runway is part of the Fashion Steps Out 2014 @ Orchard. Another event worth a visit is the Local Labels Exhibit @ Orchard Central at the Orchard Central Discovery Walk Level 1. The event showcases the collections of 4 local designers with five iconic pieces from their Spring-Summer Collection.
