Hot Cross Bun At Easter: Half For You And Half For Me
I’ve enjoyed the Easter festivities and holidays during my three years living and working in Britain. I often recall those happy memories of driving to the lovely country sides just before each of the actual Easter weekend (to beat the crowds). The first pre-Easter drive was to Wales, the second was to Scotland and the third to Cornwall and the West Country. My family and I thus spent the Easter weekends in and around London.
Good Friday is when hot cross buns filled shop windows in the supermarkets, bakeries and cafes. What I liked most is this little nursery rhyme which is associated with the sticky and spiced fruity bun:
“Half For You, And Half For Me. Between Us Two Shall Goodwill Be”
To share a hot cross bun with someone is to ensure friendship throughout the coming year. Happiness and friendship come from goodwill I believe. My Mom has left us four years ago, but her legacy is the kindness which she has taught us. And in our increasingly troubled world, more than ever we need kindness. The rhyme rings even truer now.
The Easter Lily
One cannot forget these white beauties. The Easter lilies symbolize the peace and beauty that come with spring and are often used in bouquets and decorations for homes and churches over Easter.
Easter Eggs And Bunnies
The Easter Eggs and Bunnies are enduring customs during the religious weekend. The eggs symbolize fertility and a new life. Nowadays, they are made from chocolates and are eaten widely, given as gifts or are used as ornaments. The Bunnies did not originate as a religious custom, but over time they have become a very well-loved fertility and prosperity symbol, and new life – since they have the highest reproduction rates among all mammals.
Remember “Half For You And Half For Me…”
Have fun with all the Bunnies and eat all the Easter eggs, but leave enough room to remember the rhyme:
“Half For You, And Half For Me. Between Us Two Shall Goodwill Be”
And help to make the world, your world, a better and happier place. Please share this post if you feel the same. Cheers
