Move With The Cheese

Move With The Cheese! A Life Lesson

A Life Lesson…

This weekend, look into a mirror and find out which of the four characters that fits you the best. I am talking about the four imaginary characters that are portrayed in the famous book by Dr. Spencer Johnson. The self-awareness gained can be just the one life lesson that you need in order to help you cope with the many life changes, such as the threat of a divorce at home or the hounding by an obnoxious boss at work. Yes, it was a useful life lesson for me and here I am sharing the photos of the happy “cheeses” in my life.

Who Moved My Cheese…

Who Moved My Cheese‘ is a simple didactic story, a parable about change and how the four characters – Sniff, Scurry, Hem and Haw – see and deal with change. They all lived in an environment called ‘Maze’, an allegory to the environment that we all live in, with its constant changes, dead ends, false leads and seemingly-hopelessness as well as sunny skies. And ‘Cheese’ is a metaphor for what your goals are – warm family relationship, good health, wealth, friends and happiness. The ‘Maze’ is the place where you’ll find what you are looking for, in your home, at your work place and within your social community.

The Simple And The Complex In Us…

Sniff and Scurry are mice, just little mice you know. Hem and Haw are the ‘littlepeople’, behaving much like us as human beings, with both our simple and complex parts. Quoting from the book :

  • Sometimes we may act like Sniff – Who sniffs out change early, or
  • Scurry – Who scurries into action, or
  • Hem – Who denies and resists change as he fears it will lead to something worse, or
  • Haw – Who learns to adapt in time when he sees changing leads to something better!

Move With The Cheese…

I have just re-read ‘Who Moved My Cheese’ (takes just an hour or a little more) and you know what? I resonated with what Dr. Ken Blanchard (of ‘The One Minute Manager’ fame) wrote, by way of a preface, ‘The Story Behind The Story’ that “…you will find something new and useful … and that it will deal with change and bring you success, whatever you decide success is for you”. As a life lesson, I too like to share with you his final advice – “Move with the Cheese”.

Find New Cheese By Leveraging The Internet

This weekend, my buddy friend Michael and I are in Kuala Lumpur attending the Internet Business LIVE Seminar by Patric Chan. We, along with about 500 other participants, are learning new ways to leverage the Internet to create new income streams – be it to expand our bric-and-mortar business or services, build Apps or create new internet-related businesses.  We are moving with the cheese. Are you?
