The Truth About Retiring Happy
Retirement means different things to different people. I am perhaps just making an axiomatic statement. And it’s no big deal. Retiring happy is not an elusive thing. We have the time to do what we had always wanted to do. For me, I re-connect with my youth and continue my journey where I can look out for the ‘sweet amazement at the stars’.
The poet Samuel Ullman expressed what I loved to do in his “Youth” poem.
Whether they are sixteen or seventy,
there is in every being’s heart
the love of wonder,
the sweet amazement at the stars
and starlike things and thoughts,
the undaunted challenge of events,
the unfailing childlike appetite
for what is to come next,
and the joy and the game of life.
The POSB bank, in line with its catchy tagline “Neighbours First, Bankers Second”, has featured three Happy Retirees enjoying the things they love doing. I am glad to be able to share my journey through the bank. Like my other journeys in Life, my number one quote has always been :
To Strive, To Seek, To Find, And Not To Yield
~ from Ulysses by Lord Tennyson
